Dead leaves cover the floor in mounds
And branches bare, with arms so round
Forgotten days lie on the ground
Memories, images spread all around
Mild autumn winds now turned away
Gales from the north to chill the day
Large windows closed keep cold at bay
Yet through the glass shines some warm rays
Left behind cherished morning teas
Upon green grass under shady trees
Sweet talk and smiles all given free
Hearts in flight, such weightless ease
Thick rugs across the floor now spread
And curtains drawn to warm a bed
Rooms once full of dreams, faded
Only the gas stoves' glow stays red
Frosty mornings, breath's vapor so light
Lingering remains of colors once bright
Now brown-toned leaves fill the sight
All disappear into winter's night
