A welcome home

Tinkling glass bells foretell a gentle breeze blowing in
Our heroes’ return from a deep space crossing
Their spacecraft, now a ball of light, streams into view
Low on the horizon, drawing nearer
Celebratory chimes ring out from a cloud washed sky
Echoing galaxies afar
Tubes of tiny waves along the water's edge
Break softly along the shore
Announcements of bird-like calls and whistles, welcome the travelers home
And voices and laughter come into range
The ambience of joy for all to hear and see
Hopeful of catching a first glimpse across the water
Hand-waving children and relatives wait in anticipation
On a runway reaching to the sea
Musicians commence their rhythms, shaking bags of sand and shells
Birdcalls and laughter fill the blanketed evening sky
From nowhere, deeper rhythms of hollow sounds
The drumming of logs punctuate activity in the forest behind
And ringing tones of a metal gong, round and open
Layers at a time, the music builds
Chanting a coded sutra once covered in dust
Drawing everyone into life as the beating logs roll along the beach
Pounded with solid sticks ... the dance begins
As shakers rattle and the spacecraft lands
Carrying dreamers back from their timeless voyage
