Gardens grow after rain

Spoke with a gardener
And know what he said
There are things to be planted
And seeds to be fed

He said only the rains can
Wash away dust and grime
But plants they just love to
Be watered in time

Then he picked up a lump
Of brown earth in a ball
And placed it in hand
To inspect, feel its call

To the earth you have come
And to it you'll go
And the mystery lives on
In life that will follow

Gentle moonbeams caress
Our senses of real
Then carry us off
To space somewhere near

Where flowers are insects
And roads filled with planes
And the peaks of great mountains
Are giants' remains

Where rivers flow upwards
To dry out the day
And people jump sideways
To get out of the way

All along there's no choice
Just a bend in the road
Because nothing is straight
And the heart only knows

To look around corners
Would make it no fun
What we don't know is coming
There’s no need to run

In the streets people wander
Alone and in crowds
And wonder if anyone
Could feel only now

Clocks are ticking in silence
For no one can know
There is no explanation
Beyond how grass grows

Then a little brown bird
Out the window says hi
Then hops to a pot
Where a lotus leaf dries

Winds are coming toward us
Chills drop from the sky
Wrapped up in our thoughts
That now seem to fly

A way in the distance
A lone falcon soars
Swept up without moving
Intentions no more

Happens all of a sudden
Sitting here looking there
We're alive in the dream
Of being aware

Of the gods that surround us
Is there one, we can't tell
Wild winter seas crash
Thunder growls, armies fell

Inside suffering happens
With heads playing tricks
While clouds drift on by
Going nowhere, we're fixed

On outcomes that pass
That chime close at hand
Lighting dark midnight lanes
On the spot where we stand

Looking outwards in mirrors
New dimensions conceived
Images turn into sand
Flowers can be believed

Gardens are as they are
Look at us playing games
Trying hard to be something
When nothing remains

Superficial desires
Dropping stones into pools
Water falls though our hands
We become living fools

Though peace reigns in gardens
Not trying to be there
Plants, insects, and creatures
In harmony, does life care

Call it love or the other
Words give it away
We're alive and don't know it
In essence we’re clay

Using hands to create
Tend flowers, sweep paths clean
The garden is present
In paradise seen
